Chapbook in Sight

May 16th, 2009

I’m struggling with compiling a solid body of work for my first chapbook, so I took a deeper look at what my collection was doing. As it turns out, I have no clue what I’m doing, or trying to say.

The persona keeps failing: failing to be uplifted by his spirituality/belief, burdened by the knowledge/scope of religion; failing to maintain a positive perception of science; failing to elevate science above faith for good; and failing to commit whole-heartedly to the ramifications of atheism. There is certainty in the beliefs, or a reverence for the acclaim/merits/virtues therein, but there is doubt in being right. And worse, the persona is unhappy and pessimistic with his fate. Looking for rescue from the cold world of science, the persona seeks to salvage hope and zeal for life by aggrandizing dreams/ideological aspirations.
